Samgyetang 삼계탕 (Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup)

Samgyetang 삼계탕 (Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup)

Samgyetang 삼계탕 Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup is a classic health food that all Koreans and foreigners love. The dish is a representative summer health food. Samgyetang is made by stuffing the belly of a young chicken with sticky rice, ginseng, jujube, chestnuts and astragalus and boiling it for a long time(4hours).

The ginseng flavored chicken is tasty and tender, and the broth is very rich and delicious.
Samgyetang can only be found in restaurants that specialise in Samgyetang.
This is because restaurants that cook it so poorly that customers expect it to be of high quality are out of business and do not exist.

Even foreigners who try this dish for the first time can enjoy it. This is because most countries have similar food. The difference is Samgyetang contains many healthy ingredients.
Samgyetang is served in Ttukbaegi bowl (an unglazed earthenware bowl), so you can eat it warm for a long time.Although this food is very hot, it is eaten in the summer. Eating hot food makes you sweat immediately, which temporarily lowers your body temperature.

There is a specific day for eating Samgyetang. On the Boknal, or three hottest days of summer. On that day, Samgyetang restaurants all over the country are crowded with customers.
The effect of Samgyetang is to strengthen the immune system, restore energy and recover from fatigue.
It is good for soothing the stomach and boosts appetite in hot summer.

Order ginseng liquor (인삼주) and drink it before meals to stimulate your appetite.

💡
11 July, 22 July and 10 August will be the dates for eating Samgyetang in Korea this year.
